Set the Stage

How do you set the stage for your day, week, the month ahead?

Today is Monday, the first of November and I can not help but think about setting the stage for my week and month ahead.

Yesterday I sat down with my planner and journal to write out a new plan and I asked myself these questions:

-What do I want to accomplish?

-How do I want to feel?

-What do I want to stop?

-What do I want to continue?

-What do I want to start?

If “change begins at the end of your comfort zone” then do you need to do to push yourself into an uncomfortable situation?

In setting the stage for change this month I decided to switch up my morning schedule. Instead of movement being the last thing before I get ready for work I moved it to the first thing I do in the morning. Waking early enough to take a live 0430 spin class every day this week.

Honestly I am not even sure I was fully awake for this morning’s spin class but I did get it done!

This method of changing up your schedule is something encouraging to help you get unstuck.

After my workout I sat on the floor and meditated. Within a few minutes I realized my timing was off because I could hear my husband getting ready for work. I was tempted to stop meditating and just count it as a loss but, instead I pushed through and made a mental note to brainstorm ways to avoid disruption for the rest of this week.

Small changes set the stage for success.

Being distracted or getting out of whack is usually a precursor for quitting and possibly trying again later. Since today was the start of my new schedule I decided what I needed most was to push through no matter what was distracting me. I needed to give my schedule a chance inorder to get out of my own way. I could reevaluate after I had accomplished my tasks for the day.

As I finished my meditation and read today’s thought I was blown away that it was about setting the stage and waiting.

“We can’t force habits to change, wounds to heal, or the mind to be quiet. All we can do is set the stage and wait.” -Headspace Meditation

When we set the stage we just have to show up and do the next right thing (thanks Emily P. Freeman for this wisdom)… the magic is sometimes in the waiting.

I have spent months this year saying I was going to begin blogging again because I love to write but I am so in my head that I never click publish; oftentimes I start writing and end up leaving my thoughts unfinished.

What is unfinished in your life?

What have you been thinking about starting yet you don’t?

It may be time to set the stage.

What do you need to do in order to set yourself up to complete the thing you have been thinking about doing?

Do you need to schedule time to get it done?

Do you need to get an alarm to accomplish the task?

Do you need to research?

Do you need to ask for help?

What can you do today to set the stage to make progress before the year ends?

Today is the first Monday of November. We have 30 days this month and we GET to start right now.

Maybe you think what you want to do is silly or stupid. It’s NOT! Your dreams and desires for this life matter.

Set aside some time today to set the stage for this new month.

Maybe like me it is just changing up your routine or maybe it’s making a routine.

Start small.

Start today.

And let me know what if anything this post stirred up in you.

For me today is day one and my hope is this routine will knock the cobwebs off and help me reach my next writing goal.

“The process of becoming unstuck requires tremendous bravery, because basically we are completely changing our way of perceiving reality.”
