Worship

“It’s who you are and the way you live that count before God. Your worship must engage your spirit in the pursuit of truth. That’s the kind of people the Father is out looking for: those who are simply and honestly themselves before him in their worship. God is sheer being itself—Spirit. Those who worship him must do it out of their very being, their spirits, their true selves, in adoration.”

John 4:23-24 The Message

Worship is about the way we live.

The words I speak.

How I talk about people even when they cannot hear me.

How I treat myself.

My mind.

My body.

My soul.

It matters to God because the way we live our lives is worship.

Is my worship lazy or half hearted?

Is my worship lacking or nonexistent?

What does my worship say about me?

Worship is defined as the feeling or expression of reverence and adoration for God.

What does my life say about my feeling towards God?

In Ignatius of Loyola’s spiritual exercises, he suggests reading the text and then placing yourself into the story.

As I sit with John 4:23-24 I feel led to be honest about my life and struggles. My own insecurities affect my worship and the words I use towards others and myself. My self-doubt keeps me from humbling approaching God and asking for forgiveness and guidance.

More than anything I want my life to be a reflection of worship in all moments of my life NOT just the ones I share publicly.

Take sometime today to read the scripture above and let God lead you in your own reflections.

Father God guide us as we try to learn from Your words and place ourselves in Your stories. Help us to reflect You in all we do. It’s in Your precious name we pray, Amen!!

“Work becomes worship when you dedicate it to God and perform it with an awareness of his presence.”
