The thought of dropping my son off a school and never being able to hear his voice say I love you mom again brings tears to my eyes.
Mothers woke this morning without their children alive.
Fathers are struggling with anger today due to the loss of their child.
Brothers, sisters, grandmothers, grandfathers, aunts, uncles, friends, neighbors and communities are broken again today due to gun violence.
There are no easy answers or solutions today.
As I sit here in the comfort of my own home with my teenage son doing his school work I can NOT help but, wonder what can we do to make America safer for our children.
In my mind I know there is a gun problem in our country but, more than that there is a heart issue.
When you follow the money trail in our country everything leads back to politicians having their pockets lined for a gain that is NOT in the best interest of “we the people”.
There are no easy answers.
Contributing factors include absent mothers and fathers, easy access to guns, the desensitization of violence in videos games, television and movies, addiction to screens and neglect. We are neglecting our responsibility as parents, teachers, communities, politicians and people.
Our children deserve better than us getting on our soap boxes on social media and doing nothing to bring about change.
But, what do we do?
Yes pray but, also take action!
Contact your representative in The House of Representatives (find yours here).
Contact your state senator at The United States Senate (find yours here).
Educate yourself and VOTE at ALL elections!
Get involved with the youth of today (be a present with the kids in your life or volunteer).
Live by example (no more do as I say not as I do bullshit!!) children are watching our every move.
And last but, not least try NOT to let fear dictate how you live or parent. I refuse to stop going to the movies, concerts or even taking my son to school. The evil of this world can and will be stopped with prayer, taking action and good intentions.
